Tefera Officially Resumes Office As AFCAC SG

Effective January 7 2019, Mr. Tefera Mekonnen Tefera has officially resumed duty as Secretary General of the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC), the Bureau and the Secretariat of the Commission states.

 The hand-over ceremony held in AFCAC Headquarters between Mr. Atoumane Fall and Mr. Tefera Mekonnen, and was chaired by Mr. Gabriel Lesa, AFCAC President and Director General of Zambia Civil Aviation Authority.

Mr. Gabriel Lesa assures Mr. Tefera of the support of the Bureau of AFCAC to the AFCAC Secretariat and calls for a strategic approach to meet the expectations of AFCAC member States.

Also, the AFCAC President calls for a collective responsibility by all AFCAC Staff; and urges them to rally behind Mr. Tefera so as to enhance effectiveness at all levels.

Mr. Gabriel Lesa wishes Mr. Tefera resounding success in the discharge of his new duties and challenges, and the full support of the AFCAC team.

Mr. Tefera’s election as the new Secretary General of AFCAC was announced on December 3, 2018 at the 29th AFCAC Plenary (Extraordinary) in Livingstone, Zambia.

The new AFCAC Secretary General is replacing the former Secretary General, Ms. Iyabo Sosina whose tenure ended in January 2018 and was temporarily replaced by an Interim Secretary General, Mr. Papa Atoumane Fall.

The election of the new Secretary General is expected to give stimulus to the execution of AFCAC’s Constitutional mandates, more importantly, the full operationalization of the Executing Agency (EA) of the Yamoussoukro Decision (YD) and establishment of the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) at Continental level.
