At the 2019 World Cargo Symposium held in Singapore recently, experts call on governments and the entire air cargo industry to focus on three priorities to accommodate the expanding demand for air cargo and ensure the economic and social benefits of aviation can be maximized. The three priorities include accelerating the speed of process modernization; implementing and enforcing global standards and keeping borders open to trade

The theme of the event; “Enabling global trade” truly set the agenda for what needs to be done in order to align with tomorrow’s business and consumer needs.

Mr. Alexandre de Juniac, DG and CEO at IATA, says “with borders that are open to people and to trade, I am fully confident that aviation will be a powerful force for an even more inclusive globalization. With that in mind, and as leaders of the air transport industry, we need to be a strong voice reminding governments that the work of aviation—including air cargo—is critically important; trade generates prosperity; and there are no long-term winners from trade wars or protectionist measures.”

Mr. de Juniac wants governments to consistently implement and enforce global standards when necessary. He also wants industry practitioners to use the conference as a springboard to find ways of driving the digital agenda with much greater speed.

Also, Mr. Goh Choon Phong, Chief Executive Officer, Singapore Airlines, highlights the need to, “work together as an industry to ‘enable global trade. Collaboration and data sharing is at the heart of our industry, we need to drive deeper collaboration.”

Developing global industry standards will help to accommodate the expanding demand for air cargo.

The symposium witnessed the launch of CEIV Fresh which aims to improve the handling and transport by air of perishables.
