In light of the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic that has adversely affected the travel and tourism sectors, the African Airlines Association (AFRAA) announced the postponement of its 9th Aviation Stakeholders Convention to 2021.

According to AFRAA, the decision was informed by AFRAA’s May 2020 impact assessment which shows that recovery is expected to start gradually from Q3 2020 while currently the rate of infections in Africa continues to increase.

Mr. Abdérahmane Berthé, AFRRA Secretary General, said: “Safety is high among our priorities and we endeavor to stage our events at a time when the situation is safe and conducive for our stakeholders. An announcement will be made in due course when the new dates are confirmed.”

“We continue to stand together with the rest of the world in dealing with this pandemic in our mandate to serve African Airlines and champion Africa’s aviation industry. AFRAA is undertaking various initiatives to ensure the sector’s resilience to the pandemic and for post recovery efforts. AFRAA is also working closely with leading aviation industry organizations on various actions to ensure that the African civil aviation is well positioned for survival and a successful recovery,” Mr. Berthé added.
