The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed that “an aircraft registration number 5Y-CCA, on its way from Diani to Kichwa Tembo crashed.” According to the CAA, “the aircraft had a total of 12 persons on board.”
Mombasa Air Safari (MAS), the owners of the aircraft says that the accident occurred while “operating a scheduled flight from Diani Airport to Kichwa Tembo, Maasai Mara”. MAS reports that “according to preliminary information, there were 10 passengers being 8 Hungarians and 2 Germans and 1 Kenyan crew member (the captain) on board” and sadly reports that “there are no survivors.”
The airline says: “we have activated our emergency response team and are fully cooperating with the relevant authorities, who have begun their investigation” and notes that its primary focus now is on providing all possible support to the families affected. The airline says “a dedicated Family Assistance Team has been established to offer counselling, logistical coordination and any required assistance.”
MAS is one of Kenya’s oldest established airlines that operates in Mombasa. The airline says it “operates small and medium size turbo-prop aircraft throughout East Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands.”
