Central African carrier, FlyGabon has emerged president of the African Airlines Association, (AFRAA). At the conclusion of the 57TH AFRAA Annual General Assembly with the theme: “Sustainable Skies, Connected Africa” in Luanda, Angola, FlyGabon was elected President of the Association until the end of the 58th AGA. Kenya Airways was elected Chairperson of AFRAA Executive Committee with TunisAir as First Vice Chairperson and RwandAir Second Vice Chairperson, respectively.
Outgoing president of AFRAA and CEO of TAAG Angola Airlines, Mr. Nelson De Oliveira assured the African aviation community of his commitment to AFRAA even at the conclusion of his tenure. He said “my tenure as president of AFRAA ends but my commitment to operational excellence and the strategic development of our continent’s air transport ecosystem stands still. As we also promote collaboration while translating our collective plans to action, the quality energy and shared vision while nested in Luanda will serve as the blueprint for our work in the coming year. We leave this Assembly with renewed determination to implement the resolution proposed and to foster partnership necessary to build a connected and prosperous future in Africa Aviation.”
AFRAA Secretary General, Mr. Abderahmane Berthe commended the government of Angola for their support to the aviation sector including their investment in the new Augustinho Neto International Airport and support for the national carrier noting that the promise of Angola to liberalise the visa environment for Africans by 2028 was “a great news” and highlighted that visa openness was a major challenge for air travel in Africa.
AFRAA said its 57th AGA was attended by over five hundred delegates spread across 49 countries across the world. The Association subsequently announced November 15 to 17, 2026 as dates for the 58th Annual General Assembly in Gabon.
