The Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Capt. Chris Najomo has inaugurated “the National Aviation Security Risk Management Team (NASRMT) to demonstrate Nigeria’s firm commitment to adopting a risk-based oversight system.”
At the formal inauguration ceremony held at the Authority’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, Capt. Najomo stated that “the NASRMT is a unique inter-agency coordinated entity, and its inauguration marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s aviation security journey in protecting against unlawful interference, terrorism, and other insider threats in civil aviation.”
The DGCA stated that “the multi-sectoral team is in direct compliance with the provisions of ICAO Annex 17 as well as the targeted implementation of the recommendations of the recently-concluded ICAO Risk Management Workshop.” He also admonished that “all members to approach the task with dedication, professionalism and unity of purpose.”
The Chairman of the team and NCAA Director of Aviation Security Regulation (DAVSEC), Dr Bernard Omogo, thanked Capt. Najomo for the opportunity while expressing confidence in the expertise, competency and capacity of members to deliver on the assigned mandate.
According to Capt. Najomo, “the NASRMT is to identify, assess, mitigate, develop and maintain a national aviation security risk register; conduct periodic risk assessment in the civil aviation environment; and give advice on policy measures for timely and evidence-based solutions.”
