Aerocontractors has announced Capt. Abdullahi Mahmood as its new Chief Executive Officer, taking over from Capt. Ado Sanusi who has been re-assigned to take another responsibility. According to the airline, Capt. Mahmood was appointed after a diligent search to continue on the good foundation laid by the former Managing Director, Capt. Sanusi, for the benefit of all stakeholders in the airline.

Capt. Mahmood says he’s grateful for the confidence reposed in him by AMCON, and will work hard with the support of the staff and management of Aero, and other stakeholders to grow the airline to greater heights despite the challenges in the industry.

Capt. Mahmood comes with 20 years of experience in the aviation industry. With a bachelor’s degree in Geography from the University of Maiduguri, Capt. Mahmood started his aviation career at the Nigerian Civil Aviation College, Zaria in 1998, where he obtained his Commercial Pilot License and Multi-engine rating, including a national diploma in Aeronautical sciences.

He began his career at Skypower Express which was then managed by African Contract and Equipment (ACE), with operations in Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Accra and Liberia. In 2004 he joined Arik Air on the CRJ900 as First Officer, and promoted to Captain, training Captain and Fleet Manager on the CRJ900. He was moved to the Airbus A330 as a Captain and Fleet Manager. When the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) took over Arik Air through a Receivership in 2017 the international operation was suspended, and his responsibility was changed to the B737 NG as Captain, Training Captain and Check Airman on the B737NG fleet. He was then appointed the Chief Pilot of Arik Air. Capt Mahmood attended many professional courses abroad to prepare him for future challenges in the industry.
