Rwanda Airports Company Limited (RAC) has been announced as a recipient of the prestigious Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) SOC Ltd-sponsored 2018 Albert Taylor On-the-Job Training Instructor (OJTI) Award.
The ATNS Albert Taylor OJTI Award was designed to provide direct assistance towards capacity building in the African Aviation industry, particularly in training. The initiative is geared to ensure cooperation and partnerships among various stakeholders within the aviation industry. The programme is tailor-made to provide Air Traffic Service (ATS) personnel with the necessary knowledge, skills and expertise to enable them to provide operational On-the-Job Training and ATS training in their own organisation.
The 2-week OJTI course encompasses both theoretical and practical aviation training elements, such as techniques of One-to-One ATS Training; Briefing Techniques, Learning Process; Teaching Techniques; Human Behavior in ATS Training; Monitoring Trainees and Correcting Errors, Assessing Trainee Performance, Debriefing Techniques, Trainee/Instructor Relationship and OJTI Training Reports that are required for Air Traffic Controllers in an operational training environment.
Some of the challenges faced by the aviation industry are safety-related. As a performance objective, safety requires states to comply with various International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) standards. Any safety-related training serves as an enabler for the performance of complex tasks and the seamless adaption to the rapidly-changing aviation environment.
Countries that have benefited from this Programme are Algeria, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia (Roberts FIR).
