Aircraft manufacturer, Airbus has confirmed that “Air Algérie has taken delivery of its first Airbus A330-900, marking a significant milestone in the modernisation of its long-haul fleet and in its long-standing partnership with Airbus. The A330-900 will play a key role in Air Algérie expansion plans from Algiers, enabling the launch of new transatlantic and Asian routes.”
Airbus says “Air Algérie is set to receive 7 additional A330neo and will become the largest operator of the aircraft type in Africa. The A330neo will bring new levels of performance, economics and passenger comfort. Air Algerie’s A330neo is configured in a comfortable three-class cabin layout with 18 full-flat seats in Business, 24 in Premium Economy and 266 in Economy class.”
Meanwhile, engine manufacturer, Rolls-Royce says the Air Algérie’s Airbus A330neo is “powered exclusively by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines.” Rolls-Royce stated that the “Trent 7000 is the exclusive engine for the Airbus A330neo and the seventh generation in the Trent family — the world’s most successful large aero engine series, with more than 200 million engine flying hours accumulated since entry into service 30 years ago. Delivering between 68,000 and 72,000lb of thrust, the Trent 7000 offers a 14% improvement in fuel burn per seat and is 6 decibels quieter than its predecessor, the Trent 700, designed to power the original A330ceo. It is also fully compatible with 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), supporting the industry’s pathway to net-zero emissions.”
Omar Ali Adib, Senior Vice President, Customers, Rolls-Royce, said: “For more than seven decades, the airline has built a proud legacy of connecting Africa, Europe and the Middle East, and is now looking confidently further into Asia and beyond as it expands its global reach. The arrival of the A330neo marks a new chapter in this journey — one defined by efficiency, sustainability and ambition. Rolls-Royce is proud to stand alongside Air Algérie as it positions Algiers as a bridge between continents.”
Airbus says: “As with all Airbus aircraft, the A330neo aircraft is already able to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Airbus is targeting to have its aircraft up to 100% SAF capable by 2030.”
In the midst of the fleet expansion, Air Algérie is expanding its network with new routes connecting Algiers to N’Djamena, Chad and Douala, Cameroon. The airline in early 2025 commenced flight services between Nigeria’s capital Abuja and Algiers. Air Algerie also announced codeshare relationship with Qatar Airways.
