Uganda has been confirmed as “the host of the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations (IFATCA) Global Conference in 2027.” The announcement was delivered on behalf of the Minister of Works and Transport, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, by the Deputy Director General of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), Ms. Olive Birungi Lumonya, during the 36th IFATCA Africa and Middle East Regional Meeting held in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) says “Uganda secured the hosting rights during the IFATCA Global Conference in Abu Dhabi in May 2025 and is now preparing to welcome approximately 600 delegates from 132 countries for the prestigious event. The 2027 conference is expected to position Kampala as a significant hub for global aviation discussions, professional exchange, and policy dialogue within the air traffic management community.”
Ms. Lumonya pointed out the importance of the 2025 regional meeting theme, “Policy Leadership for a Safer Sky: Advancing Strategic Human Capital Development in Air Traffic Management.” She said “despite rapid advances in automation and technology, human expertise remains central to maintaining aviation safety.”
Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) stated that “for more than six decades, IFATCA has played a pivotal role in supporting air traffic controllers worldwide—championing professionalism, promoting collaboration, and ensuring safe and efficient skies. Hosting the 2027 IFATCA Global Conference further reinforces Uganda’s commitment to strengthening air navigation services and contributing to global aviation excellence.”
