Africa World Airlines (AWA) and Etihad Airways have signed “a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening their partnership and expanding air connectivity across West Africa.”
According to Africa World Airlines, “the agreement was signed at a ceremony held at the Marriott Hotel in Accra, marking a significant step in enhancing travel links between West Africa and the United Arab Emirates.”
Chief Operating Officer of Africa World Airways, Sohail Mahmood said, “the partnership forms part of the airline’s broader strategy to expand its network across the region.” Mr. Mahmood stated that “the journey has not been easy for us, but we have strived to come far, and we are on a path where we are expanding our connectivity, and we are here to sign an MoU.”
Mr. Mahmood noted that “Africa World Airlines’ extensive regional network made it an ideal partner as Etihad seeks to strengthen its presence in West Africa.” He further added that “Africa World Airlines has wide connectivity, and we plan to expand our connectivity in West Africa. We are also launching a new partnership in Abidjan next month.”
Etihad Airways’ Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer, Arik De described “the agreement as the beginning of a strategic collaboration that will provide greater convenience for passengers travelling between Abu Dhabi and destinations across West Africa.”
Mr. Erik De said: “We are privileged to partner with Africa World Airlines. Etihad is the fastest-growing airline, and the aim of the MoU is to connect Abu Dhabi to West Africa. Today is the start of that agreement, which will allow our passengers to travel to two countries with one ticket.”
Mr. Arik De stated that “the airline remains committed to strengthening its services between Ghana and the UAE while pursuing further expansion across the region.” Mr. De further added that Etihad wants “to continue serving Abu Dhabi and Ghana and also hope to expand our connectivity. In 2027, there will be more flights operating between Accra and Abu Dhabi.”
According to Africa World Airlines, “the partnership is expected to improve travel options for passengers by providing seamless connections through Africa World Airlines’ regional network and Etihad Airways’ global route network.”
