The President of the Republic of Uganda, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed veteran African airline leader, Ato Girma Wake as the Interim CEO of Uganda Airlines.
In a signed statement from the Presidency of Uganda to the Minister of Works and Transport, Gen. Katumba Wamala, the President directed the appointment of Mr. Girma Wake “as a Consultant/Advisor to assist in rectifying a number of management weaknesses in the airline.” He further stated that, “in addition, he is to serve as Acting CEO until we appoint a new CEO by July, 2026, as I had agreed with Ramadhan.”
“Mr. Girma Wake will work hand in hand with the Board until a substantive Chief Executive Officer is appointed.” Museveni added.
President Museveni stated: “I also direct that the current, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ms. Jenifer Bamuturaki be enabled to step aside immediately and handover to Mr. Girma Wake and the Board of Uganda Airlines. The Board should go ahead and organize whatever emoluments are due to her.”
Mr. Girma Wake has had a distinguished career in the African aviation sector. He has held various leadership roles in DHL and Gulfair and was the CEO of Ethiopian Airlines. He has also served as Board Chairman of the Ethiopian Airlines Group and Chairman of the Board of Directors at RwandAir.
