Aircraft manufacturer, Boeing and Ethiopian Airlines have signed “an agreement to expand their participation in the 787 Landing Gear Exchange Program.”
Boeing noted that “with this new agreement shared at the Farnborough International Airshow in the U.K., Boeing will guarantee the availability of landing gear shipsets for 10 787-9 Dreamliners in the Ethiopian fleet. Ethiopian had also previously enrolled 19 787-8s in the program.”
Boeing says that “a Tailored Parts Package renewal agreement between the two companies was also recently signed.”
According to Boeing, its “Landing Gear Exchange program helps airlines simplify the scheduling and management of the landing gear overhaul and replacement process in their maintenance operations.”
- Airlines quickly exchange landing gear for a replacement of certified, ready-to-install landing gear from Boeing’s global inventory.
- Boeing maintains a dedicated resource pool and manages all parts, engineering and technical resources, helping airlines manage inventory costs. Logistics and supply chain risks are also reduced.
- During unexpected Aircraft On Ground (AOG) situations, Boeing provides access to loaner gear and parts as needed.
- The Boeing Tailored Parts Package will provide Ethiopian with cost-effective services designed to meet their specific fleet maintenance needs, leveraging access to Boeing’s broad global parts inventory network.
Chief Operating Officer, Ethiopian Airlines Group, Retta Melaku said: “Based on our experience in implementing the Boeing Landing Gear Exchange program for the 787-8 airplanes in our fleet, we have seen first-hand the value it can provide. This reliable service continues to enable us to effectively manage our inventory and drive efficiency in maintenance operations – and now we can also apply those benefits for our 787-9 fleet.”
Senior Vice President, Parts & Distribution and Supply Chain, Boeing Global Services, William Ampofo said: “We value our longstanding partnership with Ethiopian Airlines and appreciate their vote of confidence as they continue to maximize the benefits offered by our Landing Gear Exchange program and Tailored Parts Package. This is prime example of how we are delivering reliable services that help airlines minimize downtime, reduce supply chain risks and increase operational efficiency across the fleet.”
