TAAG Angola Airlines has held “in Luanda the official launch event for its new international route to Guangzhou, People’s Republic of China, bringing together Angolan and Chinese institutional representatives, members of the diplomatic corps, corporate clients, and stakeholders from the aviation sector. The start date for commercial operations is 23 June 2026.
The new service which will connect Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport and the city of Guangzhou will be operated using TAAG’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The flight “in its initial phase” will operate a weekly frequency.”
TAAG said: “The launch of the Guangzhou route represents a strategic milestone in TAAG’s international expansion plan and reinforces the airline’s positioning as a key facilitator of connectivity between Africa and Asia, promoting the movement of people, business, and goods between the two markets.”
“China maintains strong bilateral relations with Angola, supported by a significant resident community, active corporate cooperation, and well-established economic exchanges across multiple strategic sectors. In this context, the new air link emerges as a relevant instrument for strengthening institutional, commercial, tourism, and cultural ties between the two countries.” TAAG remarked.
TAAG Angola added: “From a commercial and operational standpoint, the Guangzhou route aligns with TAAG’s vision of consolidating a more competitive intercontinental network, while leveraging the potential of Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport as a regional and international connectivity platform capable of positioning Angola as a strategic hub on the African continent.”
TAAG Angola reiterated that with this new operation, it “reaffirms its commitment to the development of Angolan civil aviation, the strengthening of ties between strategic geographies, and the promotion of Angola as a preferred gateway to Africa.”
There is growing business connections between Africa and China and TAAG Angola joins other African carriers who are already providing services to China.
