…Nigeria’s President Buhari Wants New Strategies To Develop African Airports

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, says new strategies are essential for the sustainable development of African airports. The President, who spoke through Mr. Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SFG), at the 59th Airport Council International (ACI) Africa Board and Committees Meetings, Regional Conference and Exhibition in Lagos, wants aviation stakeholders to continue to intensify efforts in upgrading facilities, improving operations, service quality, security and airspace safety.

He notes that the full implementation of the Aviation Roadmap in Nigeria which is progressing in line with milestone targets will result in the transformation of business and economic growth.

Also, the President, International Civil Authority Organisation (ICAO) Dr. Bernard Aliu, states that ICAO has been working with ACI and other stakeholders to assist States in securing resources and capacities to develop and modernize their aviation infrastructure, and calls for collaboration. He says the industry here generates very positive impacts on tourism and trade, directly and indirectly supporting 6.8 million jobs and generating 72.5 billion dollars in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).”

Ms. Angela Gittens, Director General of ACI-World wants airlines and airports in Africa to strengthen efforts to improve their operations and benefit from opportunities in the industry. Also, Mr. Saleh Dunoma, the President ACI Africa and CEO, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), says “Nigeria has been in the forefront in striving to attain the highest levels of safety standards; hence with the assistance of the APEX in safety programme, we were able to achieve the certification of our two busiest airports.” The Conference focused on ‘Business Transformation for Sustainable Development of African Airports’.
