The Secretary General of the African Airlines Association (AFRAA), Mr. Abderahmane Berthé, paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Gervais Koffi Djondo in the village of Djondo-Condji, Togo. According to AFRAA, “the meeting aimed to strengthen ties with one of the continent’s most influential economic leaders and to pay tribute to his remarkable contribution to the development of the African aviation industry.”
Mr. Berthé expressed “AFRAA’s deep appreciation for Mr. Djondo’s pioneering role in the aviation sector, which is fully aligned with AFRAA’s mission to promote safe, reliable, efficient and sustainable air transport in Africa. The discussions highlighted the strategic importance of aviation as a key lever for economic growth, regional integration and trade, in line with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM).”
AFRAA says Mr. Gervais Koffi Djondo is “a renowned Togolese entrepreneur and visionary, recognized for his transformative role in the development of pan-African businesses. His remarkable career spans several strategic sectors, including aviation, banking and regional economic development.”
AFRAA said Mr. Djondo was instrumental in “the creation of Ecobank, the first independent regional banking group in West Africa. Today, Ecobank is present in more than 30 African countries and actively contributes to financial inclusion as well as the facilitation of cross-border trade on the continent.”
“Aware of the urgent need to improve air connectivity in West and Central Africa, Mr. Djondo initiated the creation of ASKY Airlines, headquartered in Lomé. The company has become a major regional player, serving more than 20 destinations across Africa. ASKY plays a key role in enhancing intra-African mobility, supporting economic exchanges, and promoting regional integration.” AFRAA added.
AFRAA stated that throughout his career, “Mr. Djondo has worked to develop African businesses and strengthen regional cooperation. Its vision is based on self-reliance, strategic partnerships and the fundamental role of the transport and finance sectors in unlocking Africa’s economic potential.
Also, Mr. Djondo has “received numerous accolades in recognition of his entrepreneurial leadership and significant contribution to the development of the African private sector.”
