The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) has announced that “South Africa reached another aviation safety milestone, achieving a preliminary result of 95.12% following an audit conducted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).”
SACAA says, “the ICAO Coordinated Validation Mission (ICVM) is an on-site follow up activity by the United Nations’ specialised agency to assess a State’s progress since its previous safety audit.” And for South Africa, “the last full scope audit was conducted in 2023, resulting in a 91.23% rating.”
SACAA stated that a final detailed report is expected from ICAO over the next 90 days.
According to SACAA, “this achievement reinforces confidence in South Africa’s aviation system among international partners, airlines, investors and the travelling public. It is also testament of the commitment of the entire aviation industry to regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.”
The Minister of Transport, Ms. Barbara Creecy said: “These results reflect the strength of the systems that we have in place and the collective effort to ensure the safety of our skies.”
It will be recalled that Nigeria also recorded a score of 91.4% in the same audit.
