TAAG Angola Airlines Leases Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner From Avolon

Avolon has announced the “agreement of a sale and leaseback for one new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft to TAAG Angola Airlines (‘TAAG’), the national carrier of Angola.” Avolon says this is its first aircraft on lease to TAAG and it was delivered at the end of September. The aircraft, according to the lessor, is “Powered by General Electric GEnx engines… It will support the expansion of TAAG’s long-haul connectivity, with the airline’s fleet of 18 aircraft already flying to multiple destinations across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas. “

Nelson Rodrigues de Oliveira, CEO of TAAG Angola Airlines, says: “The delivery of the 787-9 from Avolon is a pivotal step in our strategy to modernise TAAG Angola Airlines’ fleet. This airplane brings the efficiency and versatility we need to meet growing market demands, replace our aging widebody fleet, and deliver a world-class experience to our passengers.”

TAAG Angola has been actively modernizing its fleet and service offering. It recently moved all its international operations to the new Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport. It is also set to host African Airlines Association – AFRAA’s 57th Annual General Assembly from late November 30 to December 2, 2025.
