Airline is increasing presence in Africa with flights to Marrakesh by October 2024
US carrier, United Airlines says it will increase flight services “between Lagos and Washington D.C., from three-times weekly to daily flights between 4 December 2024 and 14 February 2025, reflecting a 133% year-over-year increase in seats for this period.”
At a media roundtable held in Lagos, the airline said: “this will be the first time United’s service between Lagos and Washington DC will operate daily and the flight continues to be the only night-time departure from Lagos to the U.S, enabling customers in Nigeria to benefit from more travel options to visit Washington DC, as well as convenient day-time connections to destinations across the Americas.”
According to Ms Oluwatomi Bola-Sadipe, Country Sales Manager for Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa “Africa continues to be an integral part of United’s global network and we are delighted to announce an increase of flights from Lagos to Washington Dulles during the winter season with our state-of-the-art 787 Dreamliner aircraft.” United’s 787 Dreamliner aircraft features 4 different classes namely: “United Polaris business class lie-flat seats, the Premium Plus, Premium Economy and Standard Economy Seats.”
Mr. Thorsten Lettnin, Director Sales, Continental Europe, Middle East, Africa, Israel and India noted that United is officially the largest airline in the world with a total network capacity of 2.93 billion ASMs (Available Seat Miles), which means more connectivity and more options for the airline’s customers. Lettnin also averred that the airline would even offer more choices and options as it has over 500 aircraft on firm order and from 2025, United will add 100 aircraft every single year to its fleet for five consecutive years.
United Airlines is also expanding its presence in Africa this year as it includes Marrakesh, Morocco to its network from October 25, 2024. With the Marrakeh flight “United will be the first and only airline to operate nonstop flights from Marrakesh to the US and operates routes from Cape Town, South Africa to New York/ Newark and Washington DC, Johannesburg, South Africa to New York/Newark and Accra, Ghana to Washington DC.”
