Sen. Sirika, Hon. Nnaji, Aviation Industry Mourn Capt. Muhtar Usman’s Demise

The aviation industry in Nigeria has been thrown into mourning following the passing of Capt. Muhtar Shuaibu Usman, the immediate-past Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority ((NCAA). According to the NCAA, Capt. Usman passed on December 1, 2020.

 

“The entire staff and Management of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) wish to announce the sudden death of its immediate past Director-General, Capt. Muhtar Shuaibu Usman,” the NCAA had twitted. “Capt. Usman died on Tuesday- December 1, 2020 at a hospital in Zaria, Kaduna State after a brief illness. He was aged 64.”

 

Sen. Hadi Sirika, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, described the death of Capt. Usman as a monumental loss to the aviation industry.

 

Sen. Sirika said “although death is a journey on which everyone must embark at his own appointed time, Usman’s own came at a time the industry needed all capable hands to be on deck to reposition it.”

 

“Captain Muhtar Usman, would be remembered for his contributions to the sector as a pilot, air accident investigator, industry regulator spanning his time at the defunct Nigeria Airways, Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) and most recently, at NCAA,” Sen. Sirika added.

 

He commiserated with the aviation family on the loss of a thoroughbred professional who distinguished himself in his chosen field, the family he has left behind and prays for the repose of his soul.

 

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Aviation, Honourable Nnolim Nnaji, has also expressed shock over Capt. Usman’s demise, describing it as a loss to the industry, as he stated his condolence to Capt. Usman’s family.
