The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has launched the Drone (Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS)/Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) Portal, “a major milestone in Nigeria’s efforts to streamline drone regulation, promote safe drone operations, and accelerate the growth of the drone industry.”
The Drone (Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS)/Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) Portal launch was held on the sidelines of the 6th Africa International Drone Technology Conference and Exhibition (Dronetecx 2026), held in Lagos.
Speaking during the launch, the Director-General of Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Najomo enumerating the rationale for monitoring of RPAS users, said “the idea is to curb drone proliferation, manage the rapid growth of the recreational open category of drones, provide comprehensive road map and direction for the industry as well as establish a clear role for all to play in making Nigeria a prime player in the sector.”
The DGCA thanked “the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Barr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, for giving approval to commence the process of developing the policy framework and road map, which has been referenced in the current ICAO Nigeria Civil Aviation Master Plan (CAMP).”
The DGCA also commended “the conference convener, Mr. Fortune ldu, and other stakeholders for developing a policy framework that supports the already well-established Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig. CARs Part 21).”
According to Capt. Najomo, “the digital solution will enable Nigeria to take its rightful position in the development and safe utilisation of drone and automation technologies in aviation.”
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Mahmud Adam Kambari, who represented by Mrs. Rabiat Tukur Ali, Director of Air Safety Administration, noted that “the policy framework will promote the UAS technology and easy access for users.”
