Strengthening Ties

Congo Airways in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) says it has taken delivery of the first of two Embraer E190 jets from Kenya Airways (KQ).

Mr. Allan Kilavuka, Group MD and CEO of Kenya Airways was joined by Prime Minister of the DRC His Excellency, Mr. Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde, the Minister of State Portfolio Her Excellency Madam Adele Kanyinda, other Government officials, members of the Diplomatic Corps, and Mr. Pascal Kasongo, CEO of Congo Airways at the handover ceremony of the aircraft.

In April, the two airlines signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen aviation ties between Kenya and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, witnessed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and President Felix Tshisekedi during a state visit to Kinshasa.

The collaboration includes technical capacity building, commercial cooperation & human resource training. Strengthened bilateral ties between Kenya and DR Congo will boost passenger and cargo transport businesses between the two markets and internationally. This reinforces KQ’s commitment to be a catalyst for Africa’s sustainable development.
